My boyfriend, Tim, and I love the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. This was our first visit of the year and we got our Nebraska Passport stamped and Lincoln Passport stamped. My favorite part about the Zoo is that it’s not just for children. It’s an outstanding attraction in Lincoln for all ages of visitors.
Everything about the Zoo is fun and the grounds are beautiful to walk around. If you’re lucky, you might spot a roving peacock.

We started our Zoo day with the turtles and birds. But first I couldn’t resist asking Tim to pose in the butterfly (pictured on right) – one of many interactive displays around the Zoo. There is even a recycling lion that takes your paper and roars when you put it in his mouth.
I’ve always been a big fan of birds, and the zoo has plenty. My favorites are the beautiful, pink flamingos. They were enjoying their pool and shaded area during the hot day.

Another one of my favorites are the reindeer. One of the reindeer looked like he had lost some of his fur, (called velvet), on his antlers.

We ventured off to visit the Humboldt Penguins. These penguins have been at the Zoo for about two years now. It’s really fun to watch them do their feeding routine with the zookeepers. These birds are full of personality. They steal fish from their friends, come close to the audience to get more claps, and dive into the pool when they’re full from their feast.

One of my other favorite animals at the Zoo is the Ring-Tailed Lemur. The Lemurs have some new babies and they sure are cute. John Chapo, the president and CEO of the Zoo, told us that Lemur means ghost in French. The Lemur’s black and white colors help them “disappear” quickly in the Madagascar forest.

After the Lemurs and Gibbons, we decided to check out the Zoo’s newest “ride.” Camel rides are new to the Zoo this year. I had a really nice camel that seemed to glide around while he was carrying me, I swear he was smiling the whole time. The camel rides last through Labor Day weekend and are $5 a person. One camel can even fit an entire family of four on his back.

Don’t forget to ride the Discovery Train before you finish your day. It’s a really fun ride around the zoo and takes you in back of the exhibits. You get a viewpoint you won’t get from just walking around.
After you’re done with the Zoo you can take a look at the beautiful rose gardens next to the parking lot and then across the street from the Zoo is home to Lincoln’s Sunken Gardens. It’s a beautiful area, plan to spend the whole day if you really want to see everything.
